Florida Bucket List

Yesterday I started writing a blog post about my daydreams of escaping from Florida. No, it's not really that bad here. It's just that the Florida summers turn me into a blubbering crybaby. I want nothing to do with 98 degree temperatures and 100% humidity. It's not for me, and it's especially not for me when it lasts for 5 months straight. I find myself yearning for cooler weather, sweaters, and good music.

{ Florida has its shining moments too }

After realizing my words made it sound like I was throwing myself a whine and cheese party, I began thinking of all the things my husband and I should really try and take advantage of while we live here in Florida. If we ever leave, we'll regret not taking advantage of all that Florida has to offer.

Our Florida Bucket List:
{ in no particular order }

visit Gainesville
watch the sun set over the Gulf
take an art deco architecture tour through Miami
drive through the Florida Keys to Key West
eat our weight in fried food at the Florida state fair
go on an airboat ride in the Everglades
see Cirque du Soleil's La Nouba
go deep sea fishing
snorkel with manatees
see a sunrise on the Atlantic
visit St. Augustine
go kite surfing (that one's for my husband)
kayak a river or the intracoastal
see the beaches along highway 30a in the panhandle
go to Disney World while Christmas decorations are up

  1. Top of the list should be St Augustine and Harry Potter world :)

  2. That eco safari thing looks awesome! Also, I agree with Michelle in the comment above - HP world would be my number 1 :)

  3. I suggest going to Disney the first week of December or right after New Year to see the decorations. It's not usually quite as busy then. :) They keep the decorations up at least through the first week of January.

  4. Sounds like a good bucket list and a much brighter outlook! It's difficult to live in a place you don't really love. It sounds like you're about the make the best of it though! Wizarding World of Harry Party and La Nouba?? Sign me up!

  5. Good for you. I've been really good about not letting you know how much I h-a-t-e Florida (same reasons you want to leave it) because I understand you have no real choice to live there. Plus, I've spent way to much of my childhood flying down to Cocoa Beach for shuttle launches. So, I've got a sour taste in my mouth because it took my daddy away for like, an entire decade..... I digress!

    AWESOME job making lemonade out of lemons, there! I've never been to Key West and I think it could be a lot of fun!!! And I hear the beaches over in the panhandle are GORGEOUS. :)

  6. Spent the first 19 years of my life in Florida and still visit my parents at least once a year! You have to to the Florida state fair.. SO much fun and SO yummy. Wizarding world of Harry Potter is amazing as well. I'd also suggest.... St. George Island, Sanibel/Captiva Islands, and hitting up some of the local springs like Weeki Watchee or Wakulla!

  7. I want to go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter SO bad.
    We go on vacation to Captiva Island - it would definitely be worth going to. There's an awesome restaurant there called The Bubble Room. The beaches there are great. You should go over to Sanibel too.
