Tale of Two (Or Three) Stories

Recently I've shared more outfit posts, and, minus the posing in front of a camera part, I sort of like it.

Last night I had my husband taking pictures of my outfit, and I cycled through a few very limited poses. Let me tell you, I am the furthest thing from a model. After getting frustrated with how the pictures were turning out, I exclaimed to my photographer (a.k.a. my husband), "I'm not a poser!" Then I had a good laugh or two about being a poser. Laughter really lightened the mood, and then I proceeded to take a beating from my turquoise necklace. See. Sometimes you just can't win.

If you know me, I am incredibly hairstyle challenged. My hair is long and fairly straight, and I rarely wear anything more than a ponytail. Other than a small braid in the front of my hair, I still don't know how to french braid. Embarrassing, I know. Sometimes I even flat iron my hair so that it's pin straight, and on very rare occasions I might even curl it. Last week I even put my hair in a bun and actually used pins, instead of a hair elastic, to secure it up high. That was quite the feat. Try not to get used to this.

After learning to fishtail braid my hair, I sort of feel like a winner and less like a poser. Learning to fishtail my hair was a whole different ballgame than just than standard ponytail! It only took me about twenty eight three tries before I settled with what I had perfected it. I think the humidity is going straight to my head. Actually it is. This frizz is out of control, so that's why I need to learn some new hairstyles. Don't be fooled. These hairstyle developments come out of necessity not desire.

Maybe I'll wear a fishtail braid every day for the rest of summer! Overkill? As much as I love this braid, I don't think I want to spend 20 minutes on my hair every day. If I practiced maybe I could learn to braid quicker, but who practices braiding their hair?! Oh yeah, this girl.

Just when I thought things couldn't get much weirder, you know since I learned to fishtail braid and everything, we came across this little lizard. His (or her) little throat bulges out, and it's red too. Sick! Does anyone know if this is normal. Or is it like seeing me with a fishtail braid? Totally out of the ordinary! Anyone? Anyone?

Who would have thought that I would learn a new braid and see this gross-looking lizard all in one day? This world never ceases to amaze me. I hope you have a wonderful Thursday, minus gross lizard encounters!

  1. OMG I am so glad you find those things gross too. We have them here in TX and those suckers find their way into the house and then I have to chase them with a broom or spatula and it always happens when my pilot is on hitch. Grrrr. And then my friends make fun of me because they are so "cute". Whatever they are gross. So thank you I feel validated and not so alone in the ewww corner.

  3. Such a random post, and literally had me lol.

You're fortunate you can get away with such minimal styling. Your hair looks so thick and healthy thanks to not being abused.

  6. I don't know how to french braid either. I also don't know how to curl my hair or really do anything besides straighten it. I tried to watch a youtube video on how to curl my hair with a curling iron, but I couldn't get past the annoyingness of the girl to get to the curling part. fail.

I'm going to google how to do that fishtail braid, that is super cute!

yes. those lizards are gross. and i think it's normal. I've seen it before.

  7. You are entirely too cute. I love that braid, too bad me and braids do not get along... at all.

As for the lizard... I wouldn't have even stopped to take a picture. I'd be too busy running the opposite direction. EWWW.

  10. You ARE a winner Ashley! And so are your shoes! Love those :) Lol Good job on the fishtail braid. I hate the process of "doing" my hair too but I love when it looks good. I'm a big hair fanatic. If 80's hair comes back...I'm all over it! lol

About the lizard! Yep, it's normal and they're EVERYWHERE in Florida! lol

  14. Several things:

    1. I just found your blog and am obsessed already. Let the stalking commence.. errr..

    2. Teach me your hair-doing ways. That braid is the bee's knees.

    3. I think we'd make great friends.

  15. Look at you! Lookin' all FL ish!!!

I can french braid other people's hair but fails at my own. SO IMPRESSED with the fishtail braid.

I can't stand FL lizards. Jax is a lizard hunter. And yes, that is totally normal for them to do that throat thing. It's like their mating call?! I think. I could totally be making that up.

  16. Hahaha that lizard...oh my!!
Love your fishtail braid! Aren't they fun?! You're so cute.

  17. You look like you're having so much fun in that first picture! I reallyyyy want to learn to do a fishtail braid - I love the way they look. Is it weird that I think they're more "sophisticated" than a regular French braid? Maybe because I feel like it requires more skill. Or I'm just weird. Haha

  18. Hahaha ok, since this was the last thing in your post and fresh on my mine, let's talk about the lizard. The lizard would be a male. That red throat thingy is like a lion'a mane, he likes to show it off; it's a mating call to the lizard ladies.

    And, end discovery channel lesson.

Love your braid!! Looks great on ya :) I wish my hair was long enough to braid. How'd you find a how-to video to do it?
