39 Week Update

It's hard to believe that we're going to be responsible for a newborn baby in a week or two. People keep telling me to expect going past my due date, so I'm guessing I've got to survive at least two more weeks of being pregnant. Then just like that (probably not quite that easy), we'll have a baby. I'll no longer be pregnant. That's a bittersweet thought.

39 weeks and counting...

People keep saying that you'll miss being pregnant after you give birth to a baby. We'll see about that. There are certainly some aspects of being pregnant that I won't miss, like the sore hips and shortness of breath, but I can imagine missing the feeling of a tiny human growing and kicking inside of me. Growing a baby is pretty incredible stuff. It's sort of like having a superpower. Take that men.

My mom is coming to visit from Michigan, and I'll welcome the help and support she'll provide in the next couple of weeks. This is her first grandchild, so I know she's thrilled to be part of this whole experience. I'm sure my husband and I will be happy to have another set of hands around here. Not to mention, grandma's are the best!

We most likely have no idea what we're in for these next few weeks or months, and then for the rest of our lives too. Our lives are going to change in the best possible way, and that is something to celebrate.

I stocked the freezer with a few meals, we have a baby room all set up, the hospital bags are (almost) packed, and now we're playing a waiting game. Babies seem to have their own clock and timing. Hope this little guy doesn't overstay his welcome!

  1. How exciting!!! I know people always say to expect your first to come late (and I, as a firstborn, was two weeks late) but I can think of at least four women off the top of my head who've all had their first kids in the last year or two and they were all either right on time or a day or two early, so you never know. He could be here any minute. :)

  2. Best of luck when it's "go time!" Wow - 39 weeks! I totally know what you mean about missing some aspects of pregnancy. I can't wait to not waddle, etc, but I will definitely miss the kicking inside. You worded it perfectly - its like a super power!
