Our Situation aka Constant Uncertainty

I'm currently so stressed out that we still have no idea when we are moving to Florida. After my husband finishes his flight simulator training for his new job, he has to complete IOE (Initial Operating Experience) in an aircraft. We still have no clue where or when that will take place. I am sort of freaking out here. The previous sentence is probably the understatement of the year.

We cannot make plans for moving, reserve a U-Haul truck, look for housing, or basically do anything to prepare us for this move to Florida yet. Please tell us something already! Waiting and patience are definitely not my strengths at the moment. You would think I'd be used to the uncertainty of the airline industry by now. I love me some stability in life, and that is one thing we have almost zero of right now.

My husband still "lives" in a crashpad in Nevada. I still "live" with my family in Colorado. We both still sleep on air mattresses like we have been for the past month. I really wish I could pretend that sleeping on an air mattress for that long is fun. Apparently my make believe skills are lacking with "old age".

At least my husband lives in a nice crashpad. If there is such a thing as a nice crashpad. When we drove out to Nevada and moved his things into the house, I had some serious deja vu. For good reason. The house my husband rents a room in is the same exact floor plan that my friends from college lived in years ago. I had stayed with my friends while visiting Las Vegas, so I showed my husband around his own crash pad when we arrived in Nevada. Funny how things work sometimes.

I am so proud of my husband for working incredibly hard! He is doing a whole lot of studying, memorizing, and practicing. The flight simulator training has been going well for him, and his simulator check ride is next week! I know he'll do great, because he is the best pilot ever! Even though he's been gone for a while now, the time has gone fairly quickly.

Now if we just had some idea of when we can move to Florida! (:

  1. this must be tough, being away from him and not having a place to yourself... but wow, at least you have beautiful places to live:) I bet you will look back on this time as a young couple and laugh at all these crazy transitions (not that it doesn't make it hard and annoying right now!)
I hope you get to settle down in one place together soon!

  2. ugh I can't imagine, BUT think of how much you're learning and when something else comes up you can be all "this is no big deal" :) at least you have your hubs to calm your fears! they are good for that huh?

  3. Aww, sorry love. Patience isn't quite a forte of mine either. Just try to keep yourself busy, and as hard as it may seem, try not to think about it. Easier said than done right? Time will fly by. I promise, and you two will be in Florida in no time!

    xoxo

Congrats on reaching 100 followers!! YAY!

  4. Oooh man. I am so sorry Ashley! I am totally feeling your frustration! This was me and my husband almost a year ago (at least we were staying in the state though, I can't imagine moving across the country and not having a clue where to start.) I swear it makes it even worse being separated from your man! (At least, it was for me) As much as I hated hearing this..I'm going to say it to you. It will all work out in the end. It'll work out better than you could've imagined! Promise :)
Good luck with everything and I can't wait to see where you'll be moving!

  5. Man, that must be SO frustrating! I feel your pain though. The BF and I are living in separate cities right now. While we each have our own place at the moment, it's still frustrating because I have no idea when we'll actually be able to live together again. Hang in there. It will get better eventually!!

  6. I can only imagine how frustrated you must be. Patience isn't my forte either so I can totally relate. Though not completely the same, I had a total meltdown on Sunday about our future. My husband and I were discussing having children which we aren't going to start trying for until sometime in late 2012. Everyone knows that I want to be a stay-at-home mom when the time comes but that's all going to depend on where my husband is in his career at that time. Who can predict what that will be?! He's in a great field and is doing very well but it's not as if we can say in 2012 you will be making x amount of dollars. It just doesn't work that way. I became so overwhelmed by this whole uncertainty of will I have to work or will I be able to stay home that I just completely broke down. I have a hard time with the whole "let's just see what happens" attitude. I'm a planner and seeing that this is something somewhat out of my control it's driving me nuts. In the end, all that I can do is TRY my hardest to have faith. I have no other choice but to be patient.

I know that was a lot. Sorry. I guess my point is, though not the same situation, I can totally relate on the whole not knowing. The waiting game is a hard one. I know that things will soon get better for you Ash and you two will be settled in Florida before you know it :)

  7. I don't have a lot of patience either... And not knowing when/what my next step is going to be just makes me crazy. I need to have a plan at all times, so much so that it drives Kevin crazy because I'm always asking what's next.

I hope you guys hear something soon so you can start planning your move and living together again!

  11. I just found your blog and I'm a new follower. I'm a pilot wife as well. Your situation sounds a lot like how mine was (except my husband is in the military). I moved from VA to FL in 2007 and loveloveloved it! I'm sure you will too!

  12. It does get better, I swear! I've been through waiting on my husband to complete training a bunch of times now at several different airlines, and it's rough, but there is an end in sight! Hang in there Ashley!

  13. Ugh patience is not one of my stronger qualities either which is too bad considering how useful it could be in this industry. Hopefully you will find out soon when he gets OE and then you can make plans and move :) You can pass the time looking up places to live in FL?
