Losing Makes Me Mad

This blog post title could also be called "Our Football Team Lost a Playoff Game and My Husband and I Were Mad For at Least an Entire Day", but that wouldn't fit in one nice neat line. So losing makes me mad it is. I guess I'm a sore loser. Don't even get me started on how Michigan's season ended. Fudge.

We take our football pretty seriously around here. I did attend the University of Michigan after all. Having football season tickets will make you a fan pretty quickly, plus it doesn't hurt being a fan of the best college football team in the universe either. (Take that Ohio).

After moving to Colorado and meeting my husband, becoming a Broncos fan was a clear choice. I didn't care much about the NFL while in college, but it plays a big role in my life now. We go to great lengths for football around here. My husband and I attended Broncos' training camp practices in the scorching sun. I even touched *Brandon Marshall's sweaty workout shirt you guys. All in the name of football.

Finally after about 8 years on the wait list, my husband became eligible for Broncos season tickets. For a whole glorious year we enjoyed attending every single Broncos home game. Let's not forget the fun of tailgating for each game. We very regretfully gave up our season tickets when we moved to Florida in 2011. I'm not still entirely bitter about the fact that we didn't keep them and try selling them on stubhub or something. Nope. Not.bitter.at.all. Watching from the couch is more fun than being at the actual game anyways... said no football fan ever!

If you're one of those bandwagon fans who only followed the Broncos when Tim Tebow played QB for a minute, then you can just stop right here. Let me just say, my husband and I were over the moon when the Broncos picked up Peyton Manning. Seriously. We like to see our team win. (refer to the title of this post). You want to talk about someone who's heaven sent... it's Manning. Things started out a bit shaky, but Manning quickly proved he was back and knew how to run an offense. Playoffs here we come! Winning is so much fun muahaha.

My husband and I were incredibly excited to see the Broncos in the playoffs and winning games. Not to mention, their record won them the right to play at home in Mile High Stadium for playoff games! We prepared for game day and wore our "lucky" shirts that seemed to help the Broncos win games all year. We became superstitious after the Broncos lost every time we wore a different shirt, so we busted out those lucky shirts and some Coors Lights. Nothing like a Coors Light (or two) and some Broncos football to make us feel like we were back in Colorado.

Without going into game details telling you how much I think the refs crazy penalty calling doomed Peyton's fast-paced offense you just need to know that the Broncos lost that playoff game this past weekend. I didn't speak to anyone the rest of the night. (unless you count a few angry texts with my dad... he really felt badly for us). Losing stinks! I'm not even sure I can pull myself together enough to watch the rest of football or the Super Bowl. Okay, maybe I'll tune in to watch Beyonce at half time. I'm still ticked we won't be watching the Broncos though.

Puzzled Over Football

No, I'm not actually puzzled about football itself. I know where my allegiance lies when it comes to football. I am a Michigan Wolverine and Denver Bronco fan through and through. Don't even try and change my mind. If there's one thing I am puzzled about though, it's why on earth you would ever want a nut as your mascot. That's just nuts! Some things will forever puzzle me.

Needless to say, I'm pumped about the start of my college football team's season today! I even busted out the Michigan Stadium puzzle my dad got me for Christmas. I figured it was the perfect time for a bit of excitement over the greatness that is Michigan football. Go Blue!

Mixed Feelings

Yesterday the Broncos beat the Kansas City Chiefs, and I was thrilled! The past few weeks have been tough for Denver fans, and this was a much needed win. I know that Nate was happy with the Bronco's victory too, even though he missed out on attending the game due to being called in to work. There's that unpredictable pilot schedule we've been missing. (He was basically just short of fuming!) To make matters worse, I told him that he missed out on a stealth bomber flyover to boot. Even though there was much reason to celebrate, there was a little bitterness to that sweet for him missing the Bronco's win.

The Broncos started out strong this week, scored first, and continued working hard until the end of the game. I'm not sure that any professional team should just give up (or be forced to let up for the sake of not "running up the score" and humiliating the other team) when they're ahead, because you never know when you'll lose a lead... and the game. It's happened to the best teams. It's not necessarily considered running up the score if your team just plays like crap and the other team plays well.... is it?

If there was one person who had a really crappy night, it was the Kansas City coach, Todd Haley. After the game, he refused to shake Josh McDaniel's hand, pointed and shook his finger at Josh while saying something, and walked away. Not sure I've seen that before, and people can only speculate what Haley said. He's not telling.

Last time I checked, many football teams beat their opponents by 20 points or more. As embarrassing as this is, the Broncos lost to the Raiders 59-14 a few weeks ago. The coaches still shook hands after that game.

Even though the Chiefs coach made headlines with his bad attitude, there sure were a lot of happy people last night. In football... when one team loses, another team wins. Even when you lose, the way you can win is by at least being a good sport about it. Maybe Haley was just trying to create drama and motivation for his players when they play the Broncos again in a few weeks? The world may never know.

Greater Than Just Football

Nate and I went to the Bronco's regular season home opener yesterday, and it was an extremely hot fall day. By extremely, I mean at least 100 degrees up there in our dark blue seats directly in the sun's glare. There was not a cloud in the sky for miles and miles. Yikes... so much for nice fall football weather. That aside, the Broncos clobbered the Seagulls (I mean Seahawks), and we had a pretty great time watching!

Of course, a fighter jet flyover signaled the beginning of the game. The excitement was enough to get anyone at least a little riled up for the day. But it was the moment of silence for American troops that really had me teary eyed before the game started. Justin... you are dearly missed and not a moment passes where someone is not thinking of you. Thanks to all of the troops for doing what you do.

Nate and I normally take a picture of ourselves at each game, but our faces were melting off in the sun so we would not have been recognizable in a picture. I also think that by the end of the season we will have climbed the same height as a 14'er (that's a 14,000 foot high mountain peak). I should look into counting steps and figure that one out this season. We are grateful to have season tickets this year, and we're definitely looking forward to the Broncos kicking some butt this season. Go Broncos!

What's Your Fantasy?

I'm not talking about anything naughty... or even your wildest fantasy... I'm talking Fantasy Football!

This year (surprisingly) is my first time playing FF, and I couldn't be more excited to see how it works out. Nerdy, I know. The first thing that really got me excited was taking part in a live draft to choose the players on my dream team! I watched all the rounds of the NFL draft this year... so I was itching to put some of the knowledge I gained to the test. I even created some cheat sheets to aid me in the draft. The other thing I was looking forward to was naming my team. After what seemed like hours of searching the internet and going back and forth, I settled on Cutler's a Ditka. We're not really Jay Cutler fans around here. He was sort of a whiny baby, and in football that just doesn't fly! (I hope he throws lots of INTs this season) Too bad I can't name Fantasy Football teams for a living, because coming up with a creative and funny names is too much fun. I even came up with another name for my team but did not end up using it... it seemed a little inappropriate for an all girl FF league. Nate used the name I came up with instead, and the name of his FF team is SupOrton Tebow'ner (a little play on a couple of Bronco's last names). If anything, it made me laugh. :)

After all of the fun of naming my team, naming Nate's team, drafting players, and choosing a starting roster... I just hope that the players I picked stay healthy and score points! My fantasy is winning fantasy football this fall and that my team performs, but if they don't... I'll just trade their butts. How fun is that? ;)

Are You Ready?

It's almost time... are you ready...

... for some football!? Nate and I are extra excited for this fall, because we're Broncos season ticket holders this year. Heck yeah! Nate has been on the list for at least 7 years, and this year was his year. I don't get quite the same excitement about watching any other professional sport. There's just something great about watching dudes 3 times my size get on a field, face to face, and work together to win for their team. Aaaahhh, I can just hear the sound of pads and helmets crashing together now. Anyway.... sorry...

Before I moved to Colorado and met Nate, I didn't really watch much NFL football. Attending college at the University of Michigan, obviously I was a huge Michigan football fan, and college football was my thing. I do still cheer for my maize & blue! (Although it's been a tough few past years) I do still watch quite a lot of college football. However, since moving to Colorado and meeting Nate, I've become quite the NFL, and more specifically... Broncos fan. Never did I predict my future would consist of watching all rounds of the NFL draft, looking forward to attending pre-season training camp, sitting in the winter snow cheering for the Broncos, or actually being a season ticket holder for anything other than Michigan football. Wow! Maybe some day we'll also hold season tickets for Michigan football too. For now though, we are Broncos season ticket holders and will enjoy as many games as possible cheering for the Denver Broncos!

Hopefully I'm not jumping the gun by posting this so soon, but football season really isn't that far away... right? Anyway, training camp starts at Dove Valley in only about two weeks, so I don't really think I'm too early with the excitement. I was really excited after watching the draft... so at least we're a little closer to regular season now. Go Broncos and Go Blue! (not Big Red) hehehe... Honey, don't read that part.
